Many regional and national health systems have grown by merging with or acquiring hospitals and other entities, keeping local boards in place, and instituting a “governance authorities matrix” that outlines the roles, responsibilities, and authorities of the parent and all subsidiary boards. Too often, this has created role confusion, duplication of efforts, and lack of strategic alignment between boards at the system and local levels.

In this Webinar, we will identify emerging health system governance best practices—including consolidation, streamlining, and unification. Implications for roles, responsibilities, and board processes will be reviewed. We will examine a case study of one regional system’s governance streamlining and how this enabled the system to accelerate its transformation strategy.

After viewing this Webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain why both national and regional health systems are re-evaluating their governance models.

  • Articulate emerging best practices including streamlining, aligning, and/or unifying policies and practices across all boards/governance levels.

  • Identify 3–5 areas where their own organizations should consider enhancing governance approaches.

This 60-minute program will include a live question/answer session.
