The social media revolution is the defining communications trend of the third millennium. With blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Periscope, the power of worldwide broadcasting and publishing is now available to anyone.

Hospitals and healthcare organizations need to at least take into account how these technologies are likely to affect them. Better yet, they should proactively explore how they can use these tools creatively to accomplish strategic objectives.

In this Webinar, Lee Aase, Director of the Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media, will share how Mayo progressed naturally from traditional media relations to direct-to-consumer news delivery to conversational marketing—giving patients a platform for their stories. He will review the steps taken, safeguards developed, and concrete results achieved. He also will discuss how the Center for Social Media and Mayo’s Social Media Health Network are catalyzing application of social media for a broad range of health-related purposes.

After viewing this Webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe ways in which social media give global reach to communications that were previously personal.
  • Discuss the growth of social media and why this trend must be recognized in the 21st-century workplace.
  • Give examples of how social media tools have been used to create positive impacts on healthcare and medical conditions, along with examples of privacy breaches and lapses in professionalism.
  • Articulate personal guidelines for involvement in social media platforms.

This 60-minute program will include a live question/answer session.
