Steve Pu, D.O., joined Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center (TRRMC, formerly Dunklin County Memorial Hospital) in Kennett, Missouri in 1984 right out of residency where he opened his private practice in general surgery. Pu practiced as a general surgeon for 25 years then transitioned to full-time wound care in 2009. Since 1999, he has served as the Medical Director of TRRMC, the position of liaison between medical staff, administration, and governing board. From 2002–2008, Dr. Pu served on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Foundation for Health, a large private foundation that awards grants to non-profit organizations that serve the uninsured, underserved, and underinsured in Missouri. Since 2009, Dr. Pu has been president of the board of Health Literacy Missouri, a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of Missourians through improvement in health literacy. In 2012 he championed a pilot patient experience initiative at Twin Rivers that continues to receive national attention.
Pu earned his undergraduate in biology at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1973 and completed his medical degree at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1979. He completed his internship at Jacksonville General Hospital in 1980 and his residency in general surgery at the Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital in 1984. Dr. Pu is a lifetime member of the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery and a Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
