Participants in the CEO roundtable discussed educating the board on the concept of quality, carving out time in the agenda to devote to this topic, promoting transparency of information, and many others. This is the fourth of five CEO roundtables devoted to the topic of quality. Questions for discussion incuded:
- How are you educating your board on what to do and what not to do to monitor quality and patient safety?
- How is this new-found interest on the part of the board being received by the medical staff?
- How are you approaching the reporting of results to media and other players?
- Who do you believe is key to the organization’s quality efforts—for example, the CEO, vice president of quality, chief of staff, VPMA—and why? Where does the CFO fit in the efforts to improve quality? Have you begun efforts to educate your CFO on the full implications of quality initiatives?
- Should there be a board member who is a quality “champion?”
