• How important are physician relationships and hospital–physician alignment to your hospital’s strategic vision? What are your top two objectives with regard to physicians in the next one to three years?
• If healthcare reform legislation expanding coverage for the uninsured is signed (or has been signed by the time of the conference), how much stress will it place on primary care and emergency care in your community? How will you respond?
• How do physicians participate in governance and other leadership roles (e.g., paid department chiefs, product line leaders, physician cabinet members, quality improvement leaders, etc.) in your hospital? How satisfied are you with their engagement? Are you planning any changes in how physicians are selected, prepared for, and engaged in governance and leadership roles?
