Governance Support Editorial Board

The Governance Institute's Governance Support Editorial Board serves in a similar capacity as the Member Editorial Board, with a specific focus on issues and challenges for governance support professionals.

This editorial board includes a range of members from varying organizations and in varying positions related to governance support. They participate in article development and interviews for the Governance Notes newsletter, and provide input and advice on other aspects of the governance support program.

Pam Arledge, Executive Office Manager
Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, WA

Ms. Arledge is a longtime employee of Providence, with over 26 years of service. She has served in her current role as Executive Office Manager since 1995. In addition to providing direct support to the chief executive and board, Pam has responsibility for oversight of the administrative office support staff, department budgeting, and day-to-day operations of the executive suite. Pam is an active participant representing Providence in several local charity events including United Way, March of Dimes, and American Cancer Society.

Betsy Beam, Chief Administrative Officer
Baptist Easley Hospital, Easley, SC

Coming off a career in law enforcement and victim assistance, Betsy started at Baptist Easley Hospital in 2006. As Chief Administrative Officer, she oversees logistics of all hospital board and committee meetings, drives board activities out to all areas of the hospital, and ensures board governance activities meet or exceed Joint Commission standards. She also focuses on effective working relationships with both the physicians and the community. Betsy serves as both State Judge and State Examiner for South Carolina’s Quality Forum, is a National Examiner for Baldrige’s Performance Excellence Program, and has sat on numerous local boards, including United Way.

Kendra Fiscelli, Director of Governance

St. Luke’s Health System, Boise, ID

Kendra is the Director of Governance at St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho. St. Luke's has been named one of Truven’s Top 15 Health Systems in the U.S., four years running. Kendra started her career as a paralegal working for 12 years in various areas of the law, with the last five years dedicated to healthcare law and policy. In her current role, Kendra is responsible for corporate and board governance including board education and development, board policy management and implementation, and system structure. She also serves as a resource to the executive administrative professionals supporting St. Luke’s boards. She earned her undergraduate degree from Boise State University and her Masters’ in health administration from George Washington University. Kendra is committed to hard-work, continuous learning, and service to others.

Juanita Hernandez, Corporate Governance Officer
Community Medical Centers, Fresno, CA

Juanita Hernandez is the Corporate Governance Officer and Vice Secretary of the board of Community Medical Centers in Fresno, California, a locally owned, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), public-benefit organization.

Susan M. Huber, Vice President, Governance and Sponsor Relations
Ascension Health Alliance, St. Louis, MO

Susan M. Huber is Vice President, Governance and Sponsor Relations, at Ascension Health Alliance. In this role, Susan is the executive responsible for working with and supporting the members of Ascension Health Ministries (the sponsor), Ascension Health Alliance board of directors, and Ascension Health board of trustees, in establishing their goals/initiatives, and providing the structure, critical thinking, and analysis to ensure that the initiatives established are achieved.

Valerie Huyge, Corporate Executive Assistant
Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare, Carson City, NV

Valerie Huyge has worked for Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare (CTRH) for more than eight years. When she was first employed, Carson Tahoe was a public hospital and has since transitioned to a Nevada not-for-profit private community regional medical center, including a new 144-bed, state-of-the-art facility. Prior to working at CTRH, Ms. Huyge worked for the U.S. Senate, as an entrepreneur, and as a chemical buyer for a laboratory.

Suzanne L. Jackson, Board Liaison
Lancaster General Health, Lancaster, PA

Suzanne L. Jackson currently serves as the Board Liaison for Lancaster General Health, where she provides governance-related administrative support to the boards of trustees and senior management team. Additionally, Ms. Jackson provides oversight to board and committee coordinators to ensure consistency of formatting and content. Prior to this position, Ms. Jackson was the Legal Secretary for General Counsel of Lancaster General Health. Before joining Lancaster General Health in 2004, Ms. Jackson served as a contractor for Johnson & Johnson in its research and development department.

Courtney Kirchner-Brumbach, Director of Governance and Regulatory Review
St. Luke’s Health System, Boise, ID

Ms. Kirchner-Brumbach is responsible for the implementation of governance best practices throughout St. Luke’s Health System (SLHS). She works directly with all SLHS boards of directors, directing board member orientation, educational programming, and continuous improvement across the system. She holds two degrees from Boise State University, a bachelor of business administration in operations management, graduating summa cum laude, and a master of public administration. Ms. Kirchner-Brumbach was recently appointed to serve as a member of the Baldrige Board of Examiners, evaluating applications for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Ashly LeBlanc, Executive Assistant to the Board
Baton Rouge General Medical Center, Baton Rouge, LA

Ashly LeBlanc has worked for Baton Rouge General for 24 years. She currently serves as the Executive Assistant to the Board. In this role, Ashly coordinates retreats, board meetings, committee meetings, and provides administrative support to the board of trustees.

Rebecca Lincer, Executive Assistant
Baylor Health Care System, Dallas, TX

Rebecca Lincer is Special Assistant to the CEO of Baylor Health Care System and Board Coordinator to the board of trustees. She began her career with Baylor Health Care System in December 2004 and previously worked for several Fortune 500 CEOs in the Dallas area over the last 20 years.

Patricia O'Desky, Assistant to the President
Akron Children's Hospital, Akron, OH

Patricia A. O'Desky has served as Assistant to the President and CEO of Akron Children's Hospital for over 30 years. She also works with the board of trustees and women's board.

Lisa Lennon Pascoe, FACHE, Executive Director, Governance
Sparrow Health System, Lansing, MI

Lisa Pascoe has been in the field of healthcare management for 24 years in a variety of settings, including primary care hospitals, tertiary hospitals, health system corporate offices, and health maintenance organizations. She is currently the Executive Director of Governance and the Secretary of the board of directors, for the Sparrow Health System. Prior to this position, she was a Vice President with St. Lawrence Hospital and Healthcare Services (a division of Trinity Health). She has a bachelor's degree in engineering arts from Michigan State University and master's degrees in both health administration and business administration from the University of Michigan.

Jennifer Stephens, Executive Assistant to the President and CEO
Ephraim McDowell Health, Danville, KY

Jennifer Stephens has worked for Ephraim McDowell Health for 12 years, providing support to the CEO, board, and Medical Staff President and Vice President. She represents Ephraim McDowell Health in numerous charity events, including Heart of Kentucky United Way Day of Caring, The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, Relay for Life, the Kentucky State BBQ Festival, and the Ephraim McDowell Health Care Foundation’s annual Luminosity gala. She is also a Stephen Minister, certified instructor in R.I.P.P.E.D, TurboKick, Zumba, and Zumba Toning.

Kathryn A. L. Witt, Assistant to the President
Mount Nittany Health System, State College, PA

Kathryn Witt has been employed for 12 years as Assistant to the President for Mount Nittany Health System in State College, Pennsylvania. Ms. Witt coordinates the activities of and supports five corporate boards and 10 board committees. She coordinates board orientation and provides governance-related administrative support to the boards, committees, and executives.
